As of September 11, 2018, our three core production sites are EH&S certified, based on the ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 regulations. These multi-site certificates cover our sites in Singapore, Suzhou, China and Poznan, Poland. While Singapore and Suzhou had been certified in 2017, our site in Poznan was added this year in September. Wilson Zheng, Sivantos’ global EHS officer, explains that “this achievement is a milestone and was only possible through the great teamwork and the support of the local EH&S committees.”
OHSAS 18001, short for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series, is an internationally recognized standard for occupational health and safety management systems. It certifies that a company puts in place demonstrably excellent occupational health and safety performance. ISO 14001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system. Both certificates combined are an EH&S Integrated Management System, which includes environmental, health and safety aspects. This means that all of our about 2,000 employees in Operations are covered.
The two certificants also show that our employees enjoy the highest health and safety standards at their workplace as we constantly seek to minimize risks and reduce the potential for accidents. “The EH&S certification body audits have given a ‘fresh set of eyes’ to review the environmental impacts and occupational health and safety risks in the organization, and have identified many opportunities for improvement, unbiased suggestions and actionable directions to further enhance our EH&S performance,” Thevaraj Victor, EH&S officer for Sivantos in Singapore, summarizes.
