Inventions are the essence of any R&D company. The Sivantos Group has more patents registered than any other company in the hearing aid industry. To ensure that we stay ahead of our competitors, Sivantos held the first “Inventor’s Day” end of November. The objective behind the one-day workshop? Fostering ideas that could turn into inventions and ideally be filed as patents.
The 25 most successful inventors of Sivantos met on November 29th for the first Inventor’s Day in a tech incubator in Nuremberg, Germany. “We have chosen this start-up environment because, as a corporate company, we can learn from the mentality to “just do things”. Start-ups are very good at developing quickly and testing in the early stages since they simply don’t have the time to completely check everything through,” explained Frank Nauman, Director CTO Office.
Different departments and functions across the R&D organization from Singapore and Erlangen collaborated in this set-up for the very first time. What unites them is the number of patents they have registered in the last year. And, as inventions are not made by listening but through creation, the inventors were divided into five different interdisciplinary teams with a challenge: building a prototype with the help of a IoT (Internet of Things) sensor kit in roughly two hours. Colleagues that might have known each other from informal greetings only, were now one team, taking advantage of the individual knowledge each person brought from his everyday work.
“This is a tough task,” Frank said. “The teams need to come up with a problem they want to solve with the help of IoT sensors, solve it and of course test it before they present it to the other groups.” The colleagues were hooked, their fun was infectious through their presentations at the end of the day. The results? Well, we cannot reveal them yet. But maybe you will see them implemented in one of our next generation hearing aids.
