Doctors in DRC Learn to Use Shoebox

Audio Engineer Devin Loney showed doctors and patients in the Democratic Republic of the Congo how to use Shoebox to detect hearing loss quickly and easily.

Earlier this year, Shoebox Audio Engineer Devin Loney showed doctors and patients in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) how to use the Shoebox audiometry system, a quick and easy way to detect hearing loss even before the patient notices. He attended a week-long conference, held by the global scientific organization The Union, on multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), a disease that affects many there. MDR-TB is treatable, however, the drugs that are used are toxic to the ear and can cause permanent hearing loss.

Shoebox, a WS Audiology brand, allows doctors to change the course of treatment accordingly to prevent any permanent hearing impairment. Watch the video below for an inside look.
